Thank a soldier

Hey stumbled across this site.

It takes 2 seconds and you can send a thank you card to a soldier!  You don’t get to pick the soldier, but just thought it was a cool idea.  Totally free and fast, and maybe will make someone smile.

So some UofA students decided it’d be hilarious to dress up for Halloween as the Sept. 11th attacks.  The girlfriend was the plane and the boyfriend was the building, complete with bodies jumping from windows and at one point in the night even had a lighter and was melting bodies.

I heard about this on my talk radio this morning.  The host was absolutely disgusted, and shocked that we have already forgotten so quickly.  This girl, Nicole something or other orginially agreed to an interview on KTAR but then deleted herself from Facebook, and has been unavailable for interviews.  However, on different posts on websites she is proud of her costume, thinks people need to get over it, and shows no remorse.

I just don’t get some people.  Did they think was funny?  I just think of the time that went into making these ridiculous costumes.  I mean just for a minute while glueing bodies onto their costume did they think, hmm maybe this offensive or classless?  Their smiles in the picture really get to me.

Apparently they were asked to remove their costumes in order to stay at the party.  At least some people still remember.

Oh and by the way, they’re journalism students.  Go figure :p <– read more here.

Prop. 8. From your neighborhood mormon :)

Okay so I’ve been brewing this post in my mind for a while now.  And I have so much to say, but it’s all been said.   This blog seems to say it best, and has lots of good facts I don’t feel like quoting right now. I am very glad that Prop. 8 passed in California.  I am glad 102 passed here in Arizona.  And I am glad it also passed in Florida.  I am glad these marriage ammendments passed, not because I’m a hate mongering religious zealot.  I am glad it passed so that ours laws will not be made by judges.  I am glad it passed, because to me two women or two men cannot ever have the same type of marriage as my husband and I.  As far as a human issue, I believe humans should be able to will their property to whoever they want (as far as I know that’s already allowed.).  Humans should be able to have whoever they want at their deathbed, in hospitals, whatever.  Humans should be able to put whoever they want on their insurance.  All humans deserve these rights.  This is a human issue, not a gay issue.  I’m glad it passed because I don’t want to raise my daughter in a world where she goes to school and reads books about Tommy and his two dads.  I don’t want her growing up thinking this lifestyle is embraced.  But moreover I don’t want to be criticized for teaching her in our home our values, people saying we are teaching hate, or close-mindedness.

And truthfully I do not understand why the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has been so singled out.  Many churches worked together to pass these ammendments.  And I don’t believe there is hate on both sides.  Today in CT a judge ruled gay marriage was legal.  I didn’t see any protesters there with “GO TO HELL GAYS” signs.

We didn’t steal anyone’s rights.  We are just trying to protect ours.  Hopefully the hate and violence can subside and love and acceptance can reign on both sides.

So in case you haven’t heard…. last night Obama won.

I am trying to be positive and hoping in my heart that my gut and brain have been wrong about Obama.  That the rest of America isn’t as disillusioned as I think they are.  I hope this country will continue to be the greatest nation in the world.  I hope we don’t lose sight of the Constitution and the principles this country was founded on (as if we haven’t already!).

How I think this will effect me?  Well for one, hubby and I own a rental property.  I don’t think we will try selling while Obama is in office if he is able to raise the capitol gain’s tax as much as his plan has shown he will.

Our family will also purchase a gun before Obama takes office.  Just to have, to be safe, in case it’s ever necessary.  Because from what I hear this right to bear arms is something Obama wants taken away.

I’m surprised he won some of the states like PA, and FL.

All I can say is that I’m grateful the Dems don’t have a supermajority because this country needs checks and balances.

And I’m also glad it looks like the defining marriage ammendments passed in every state where it was on the ballot (AZ, CA, & FL).

Old news by now…

But this disgusts me.

In case you’ve been under a rock and haven’t heard this happened somewhere in West Hollywood.  And the idiot responsible says it should be viewed as “art”.

When I first heard this story I was extremely tempted to create an Obama dummy to hang from a tree in my front yard.  Just art, right?  Can you imagine the reaction?

I’m sorry but the to me the image of a hanged woman is no worse than a hanged man of mixed race.  Sexism is wrong.  No less wrong than racism.
